in brief, although it is true that people suffering from ptsd have experienced one or many traumas, the experience of trauma does not necessarily give rise to ptsd. people, who have experienced childhood difficulties in the form of, for example, years of repeated angry criticism or have struggled with parental divorce or have experienced neglect, might be described as traumatised but would not necessarily manifest the symptoms of ptsd. trauma therefore may be defined as any deeply distressing and disturbing event or series of events which a person may experience negatively or think about and feel disturbed by. click here for more information ptsd may be defined as an event which causes mental and emotional stress following fear for their life or severe, completely unexpected psychological shock; this typically involves sleep disturbance, repeated vivid recall of the experience and panic attacks. click here for more information. i have included links to real-life stories where people have experienced trauma or ptsd at the bottom of the trauma page. what is dissociation?
